Raw Faith

An Uncharted Journey

Trailer

“Raw Faith” is an 88’ replica of a Spanish style galleon designed and built by George McKay and his family in Addison, ME.  George’s daughter was born with Marfans Syndrome which left her wheel chair bound.  The family mission was focussed on building a wheel chair accessible vessel to travel the seas with the entire family and offer sailing adventures to other families with wheel chair bound children.

The ship was launched in 2003 after 4 years of hard work and sacrifice including selling the family home and abandoning the conventional middle class lifestyle they had embraced  prior to pursuing this dream.  The family unit on “Raw Faith” eventually dissolved- sons, daughters and wife pursuing other directions off-boat.  The ship suffered several ill-fated attempts at leaving Maine including being dismasted twice in heavy wind and seas.

Yet even with all the setbacks, George McKay continues his committed pursuit of sailing “Raw Faith” out of Maine and offering sailing adventures to those in wheel chairs and their family.  Filming has occurred over the last seven years and continues to be documented in a Seaworthy Productions/Post Office Editorial joint project.
